Important Facts About Implant Supported Dentures

Posted on 10/11/2021 by Evan
Important Facts About Implant Supported DenturesMost adults have a few missing teeth. According to the American College of Prosthodontists, close to 178 million Americans have atleast one tooth missing. Gum disease and facial injury are the most prevalent causes of missing teeth. To permanently replace the missing teeth, we recommend implant dentures for our patients. Implant-dentures come with the benefit of both dentures and implants.

What Is the Procedure of Getting Implant Supposed Dentures?

First, our surgeon will place screw-like implants in the jawbone. They take between four to six months to fuse with the jawbone tissue completely. After which, we fix the natural-looking dentures to the implants. There are two types of implants we suggest for our patients, Fixed and removable implant dentures.

Fixed Implant Supported Dentures

Fixed implant dentures stay in place by dental implants in the jaw. The dentures remain in place thanks to four to six implants, which help prevent bone loss. Patients with fixed implant dentures admit they feel like natural teeth. With proper oral care like daily brushing, fixed implant dentures can last more than 20 years.

Removable Implant Supported Dentures

Removable Implant Dentures are also known as Overdentures. They are the best option for patients who have experienced severe bone loss. Our team of professionals places removable implant dentures in two procedures. The implants are fit into the jaw to fuse with the remaining bone. After two months, we attach the premade custom dentures to the implants. Since you can remove the dentures at night, they are much easier to clean.

With implant dentures, you can get back your normal tooth function and eat solid foods without fear of dentures slipping out. Fixed or removable implant dentures also help restore your natural smile. Visit our clinic if you have any questions about getting implant dentures.
