Dental Technology

You might not have noticed, but dental technology is everywhere. If you have been coming to see us for a while, we might have snuck some dental technology under your nose before you even noticed. You’ll want to hear about dental technology, because some of it may make your life easier and your dental health better. Let Center for Advanced Periodontics and Implant Dentistry give you some information about the latest in dental technology.

CAD-CAM

CAD-CAM stands for Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM). We can use this machine to create appliances and orthodontia for your mouth. For example, we can take pictures of your teeth, and use the CAD-CAM to design aligners for your mouth. The CAD-CAM can also create sportsguards and night guards for your teeth to protect them at night or when you are playing a sport. We can even design restorative dentistry pieces, such as inlays, onlays, and crowns, so that your teeth can look amazing.

Digital Panoramic X-ray

With the old x-rays, we had to take four pictures, and they weren’t ready right away. If there were a problem with your x-rays, you would have to come back and see us. No one wants to worry about multiple appointments. With digital panoramic x-rays, you won’t have to take four pictures - which means less radiation for your body. The images come across in digital format immediately, so no waiting for x-rays to develop. We can also see your teeth and jaws all at one time with two pictures, shared across all of our screens at our office.

Intraoral Camera

We love intraoral cameras, because the camera is small enough to fit into your mouth, and allows us to see everything that is happening inside of your mouth. The intraoral camera not only allows us to see what is going on at the moment, but we can save pictures, which is helpful to track your mouth changes over time or to help us track a problem.

Cone Beam CT Scan

A cone beam CT scan is a diagnostic tool that produces a 3D representation of your teeth, gums, nerve pathways, and underlying bone structure within a single image. We typically utilize cone beam CT scans when a regular x-ray is not enough. Cone beam CT scans are ideal for surgical planning, the diagnosis of TMJ disorders and tumors, and the evaluation of bone structure and tooth orientation.
