Aesthetic Gum Lift
There are many things we notice about people when we see them. Some of us notice another person’s eyes. Others are attracted to someone’s hair, or how tall or short they are. Researchers estimate that women and men can both be attracted to someone’s smile. For men, 70% of them say that a smiling woman makes them more attractive. If you are one of those people who are into smiles, you may think that your smile isn’t as appealing as it could be, because your gums overshadow your beautiful white teeth. Did you know we can reduce the size of your gums to let your teeth shine through? It’s called an aesthetic gum lift. Let Center for Advanced Periodontics and Implant Dentistry tell you all about aesthetic gum lifts, and how they can help your teeth shine their brightest.
Why Do Some People Have A Lot of Gum Tissue?
You may have more gum tissue than your friends or relatives for several different reasons. Heredity plays a role in how much gum tissue you have. If your dad or grandma had a lot of excess gum tissue, there’s a chance you will as well. Inflammation in your gums can also lead to too much gum tissue. Inflammation in your gums is caused by periodontal - or gum - disease. If that is the case, we can help you by treating your gum disease.
In some cases, once you receive treatment for your gum disease, your gums may shrink. Sometimes, a medication that you take may cause your gums to grow larger. These medicines are usually prescribed for chronic conditions, such as epilepsy, cancer, or heart disease. While these medicines help with chronic conditions, they can also cause your gums to grow larger.
What Is an Aesthetic Gum Lift?
Not too long ago, if you wanted to have gum tissue removed, we had to remove it with a scalpel, which meant a lot of pain and sutures for you, as well as the possibility of infection. Now, trimming your excess gum tissue is much easier, because we do it with a laser. Lasers are a fantastic tool we have in our practice. We can use a laser to trim your gum tissue. There is minimal bruising, bleeding, or swelling because lasers automatically cauterize the wounds. No sutures are needed, either. Because lasers kill bacteria, there’s minimal risk of infection. Lasers are a painless alternative to gum surgery with a scalpel. We are also able to remove just the right amount of tissue. We can contour your gums perfectly to fit your mouth and the size of your teeth. When we’refinished, you have an attractive new gumline.
Am I A Good Candidate for an Aesthetic Gum Lift?
If you are not happy with the way your gums look, we are able to offer you an alternative. You may want to think about having a gum lift because gum lifts can make a big difference in the look of your teeth and your smile. If you have uneven gums, we can also even your gums out through a gum lift. To get a gum lift, you need to be in good oral health, with no gum disease. We can do an initial consultation, and if we find gum disease, we’ll be able to treat your gum disease first, and then do a gum lift.
