Brush At Least Twice a Day for Two Minutes Each Time

Periodontitis or gingivitis can be prevented by brushing at least twice daily for two minutes each time. Brushing will remove plaque and bacteria that cause these diseases. Plaque is a sticky film of food debris, bacteria, and saliva. If plaque on teeth is not removed promptly, it will turn into calculus (tartar). Brushing also helps to remove staining on your teeth.

Use a Fluoride Toothpaste

Fluoride is best to help prevent cavities and tooth decay. Look for toothpaste with the American Dental Association's (ADA) Seal of Acceptance. It has been tested and proven safe and effective. When choosing a fluoride toothpaste, pick one with the ADA Seal of Approval, which guarantees the product's safety and efficacy. Ensure to use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste for young children and supervise them while they brush.

Floss At Least Once a Day

Flossing is the method to remove plaque from areas between the teeth that are too tight to reach by brushing. The floss you use is not as important as using it correctly. Use about 18 inches (45 centimeters) of floss. You should spin the floss around the middle finger, with an inch to work with. Hold the floss properly between the other fingers. Flossing helps remove plaque from your teeth and gums.
