What Are the Symptoms of Trench Mouth?Trench mouth is an oral condition that causes swelling and ulcers around the gums. The term "trench mouth" originated from World War I, a time when the infection affected soldiers on battlefields. Most of the soldiers operated in trenches, hence the term trench mouth. While the name mind sounds comic, this is a severe condition that can have severe consequences. There are several symptoms associated with trench mouth. Some of them include:

Common Trench Mouth Symptoms

It will take only a few days for trench mouth symptoms to start showing. One of the common signs of this condition is the sudden appearance of gum pain. This pain will progress rapidly and make it uncomfortable for you to operate. You are likely to experience gum pain, especially when the gums get in contact with your teeth when you eat or talk. Ulcers of the papillae is another common symptom associated with trench mouth. This is where there are tiny projections of skin in between your teeth. You will also notice a yellowish and grey membrane on the ulcerated papillae. Some of the common symptoms of this condition include bad breath, bleeding gums, and swollen lymph. When you notice that your lymph glands are swollen, you could be in severe stages of trench mouth. This is why you be cautious with the condition.

There are several causes of trench mouth. In most cases, the mouth has a perfect balance of bacteria that prevents the formation of trench mouth. However, you are likely to develop this condition when the balance is compromised. The gums will start developing ulcers that end up in the trench mouth. It is essential to come in for treatment right away because this condition can affect your oral health. In severe cases, it can lead to tooth loss.
